Vale of Lune Press Secretary

Barry Lees. Former Second Row/Prop.

Born 1961 University lecturer, crime writer, retired police officer,

As a a convert from football, Barry's first Vale game was for the Trojans (fifth team) aged 23, away at Fylde in September 1985. On his way out from the changing rooms before the game, he was barged by Bill Beaumont, who was not looking where he was going. Touched by greatness, Barry went on to be captain of the B Team (and captain of the Lancaster & Morecambe Police Team) and has, to date, been on eighteen Vale tours. In 1986, he became compere at the Xmas cabaret and has been event announcer/MC many times since. After years of shirking any real responsibility, Barry became a Vale director and press secretary in 2022.

Early Rugby influences: Phil Sutcliffe took me aside and gave me much-needed one-to-one coaching.
Best Rugby moment: Scoring two tries in a match against Leigh (c.1991)
Daftest Rugby moment: Running at full speed to evade a tackle to score, but hitting the post protector instead. (On the first team pitch, big crowd watching and Scoop put it in the match report.)
Preferred Rugby legacy: There is a role in Rugby for everyone.
Favourite Rugby song: Sunshine Mountain (With Anks leading it)
Advice for younger self: None. I would do it all again and take no notice anyway.
